Lightsabers have captivated Star Wars fans for generations (Sabine Wren pictured above). They come in various colors: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, brown, white, and the rare black. The color originates from kyber crystals, the core of the lightsaber. These crystals are extremely rare and attuned to the Light Side of the Force. If a Dark Side user tries to wield a kyber crystal, it resists. To harness its power, they must manipulate the Force, causing the crystal to crack and bleed, resulting in the red lightsabers used by the Sith.
Kyber crystals start colorless until found by a Jedi Padawan. The Padawan’s personality and the will of the Force determine the lightsaber’s color. The Force guides the youngling to their crystal, which sings in harmony to them. If the wrong person finds it, the crystal remains cold. These crystals grow naturally on various planets, like the crystal cave on Ilum.
Get Your Own Green Lightsaber
Green is the second most common lightsaber color after blue. The Jedi who wield this color value peace, concord, and harmony. They demonstrate goodwill, friendliness, and cooperation. The green lightsaber also has a strong affinity with nature, representing growth and regeneration. Jedi who carry green lightsabers are in sync with their surroundings and the creatures in the universe. They are often highly spiritual, mastering Force spirit consciousness, striving to learn and understand the universe better.
Green lightsabers are typically used by Jedi with strong Force abilities. Telekinesis and mind tricks are common skills among them. Jedi Consulars, well-known for their green lightsabers, avoid combat, preferring meditation and negotiation. They only use their lightsabers as a last resort, usually taking a defensive stance and attacking only when provoked.
These Jedi are poised, tranquil, adaptable, and understanding. They seek solutions through communication and reason rather than violence. Their nature makes them difficult to outwit, relying on careful planning both on the battlefield and in diplomacy.
Wiser, more senior Jedi often carried green lightsabers, commanding respect across the galaxy. Jedi leaders with these sabers served as tactical military generals, using their strategic thinking to execute superb operations. Notable Jedi with green lightsabers include Master Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Luke Skywalker. In Return of the Jedi, Luke’s lightsaber color changed from blue to green, possibly symbolizing his growth as a skilled Jedi warrior.
