With so many lightsaber colors in the Star Wars universe, it can be tough to remember which character wields which saber. In this series, we spotlight three celebrated Jedi Consulars, their lightsabers, fighting styles, skills, and rare abilities.
Master Yoda
Yoda is one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe. At nearly 900 years old and standing only 2 feet 2 inches tall, Yoda's small stature often deceived opponents about his phenomenal lightsaber skills and Force abilities. Some of his notable achievements include:
- Member of the Jedi Council
- Served as the Grand Master of the Jedi Order
- Master to Count Dooku, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, and the lesser-known Ezra Bridger
- Leading Jedi General during the Clone Wars
- Led the clone army of the Republic during the Battle of Geonosis, saving Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Senator Padmé Amidala
Yoda perished after falling ill in his old age. With his dying breath, he confirmed to Luke Skywalker that Darth Vader was indeed Luke's father. Before his death, Yoda learned from Qui-Gon Jinn that it was possible to maintain consciousness after death and live on as a bodiless spirit. He then embarked on a journey to discover the secrets of immortality, unlocking this ability with the help of Force Priestesses.
Master Yoda was highly skilled in Form IV lightsaber combat, also known as Ataru. This swift form of combat included force-assisted acrobatics like somersaults, flips, leaping strikes, and powerful attacks from multiple angles. This form is extremely taxing due to its focus on gymnastic maneuvers.
Yoda's additional powers included deflecting Force lightning from Sith opponents, incredible telekinetic abilities, and the skill to uncover a Force-user's alignment by touch. He was also gifted with Force visions and the ability to communicate telepathically with other Jedi across vast distances.

Qui-Gon Jinn
Qui-Gon Jinn was a Jedi Master with strong ties to the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic. As a young Padawan, Qui-Gon was an apprentice to Master Dooku before Dooku's turn to the Dark Side. Qui-Gon was known as a maverick, often disobeying the Jedi Code to follow his own morals. His notable achievements include:
- Teacher of Anakin Skywalker, and master to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda (through Force spirit teachings)
- Completed immortality training to return after death as a Force spirit
Qui-Gon met his end in Theed, the capital city of Naboo. He and Obi-Wan Kenobi were confronted by Darth Maul, leading to a legendary battle. Despite Qui-Gon's skills, Maul ultimately separated the two Jedi and fatally wounded Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan arrived just in time to see Maul strike Qui-Gon through the torso.
Like Master Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn was an expert in Form IV. He demonstrated exemplary skills with the Force, mastering telekinesis and mind tricks. His true power came as a Force spirit, leading to events that sparked victories for the Jedi.

Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker is a highly recognizable and significant character in Star Wars history. Born to Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala, Luke was taken to Tatooine by Obi-Wan Kenobi after Padmé's death. Luke spent his childhood hidden with his relatives, the Lars family, until Kenobi reconnected with him and taught him the ways of the Force and lightsaber combat.
Kenobi gave Luke his father's lightsaber, which was lost when Darth Vader cut off Luke's hand during battle. Some of Luke’s notable achievements include:
- Destroyed the Death Star in the Battle of Yavin
- Received training from Master Yoda on Dagobah
- Inspired Darth Vader to return to the Light Side and destroy Darth Sidious
Luke's fighting style of choice was Form V, known as Shien. This combat style incorporated powerful strikes, strong defensive techniques, and excellent counter-strike movements. Luke became a skilled duelist and gained advanced Force abilities following his training with Master Yoda. He was also an expert pilot, famously destroying the Death Star with proton torpedoes.
